Topic: Search from SharePoint to FAST
With the release of SharePoint 2010 and the integration of FAST Search into this platform, there are a number of questions about the use of this add on tool. To that end, Philip Helsel will give a brief look at where FAST came from and why Microsoft paid $1.2 billion to acquire them. He will then take a look at the bundled SharePoint search architecture and compare that to FAST search engine. He will end up comparing and contrast the features and functionality of the two search engines.

Philip has a passion for learning and teaching. He works at Microsoft Learning as a Senior Technical Instructor focusing on Enterprise Search and Windows Virtualization solutions. He currently is focused on FAST Search for SharePoint, SharePoint Search and Hyper-V solutions.
Over the past two decades while at TechNow, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems, he focused on Vmware, Cisco, Linux, Solaris, Windows Server 2008, as well as Active Directory, and LDAP.
He received his Bachelors in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix.
